Note: This is a review of the Gemini STD with the original bridle and trick line, rather than the updated version.
Tim Benson and Andy Wardley's latest masterpiece is a 7ft trick kite. The sail layout is usual Benson fare, nice curved panels - definitely skate style rather than middle aged caravaner style.
What's unusual about the kite is instead of a single spine the Gemini has two spines, with a deep V at the tail end. This provides the kite with extra stability in normal flight - enabling the designers to further radicalize the leading edges. The main sail also has a flat channel - helping with backspin style tricks.
The bridle is a multi active type with a crossover, and the trick line is sculpted to follow the trailing edge so lazy susans are no problem.
In flight the Gemini has a smooth style - this kite makes you look good. That extra stability really shows - this is a true freestyle kite, it will do 100% of the tricks then fly across the sky smoothly. However I felt it was a little spongy and didn't track as well as I would have hoped.
Freestyle wise the kite fades well, backspins, axles, cascades, lazy susans and is great for combinations of these building blocks. It will dead launch too with a good tug and a bit of luck.
The Gemini is an instant classic, although by no means perfect freestyle kite.
