The Icon is Flying Wings venture into the freestyle market place. Manufactured in Taiwan to a good standard of construction the Icon is a low wind trick kite with trick tail technology. The kite has a frame of wrapped carbon rods and carbon rod, which makes the kite flyable in low winds up to about 15 mph. an adjustable standoff system enables the flier to choose more precision or a wilder character - the more precise setting producing good tracking on longer lines at the top end of the wind range. all stand off positions are protected with mylar flaps, which prevent the usual line snags. the nose also has an uncut profile for the same reason. The wing tip tensioners are fully adjustable for further tweaking.

Flying the Icon is like flying an indoor kite rather than a flicker freestyler. The Icon loves to go flat, and gentle tugs bring about endless flatspins and elegant cascades. once nudged into a fade or turtle the kite is very stable. Returning to normal flight requires a gentle touch, and the 100ft dyneema lines supplied are ideal for the kite. The trick tail makes deadlaunches and elevators a cinch, and lacking a trick line the icon will lazy susan, although faster back spin moves are limited by the frames flexibility.

The Icon is a suburb freestyle kite, which will stretch the abilities of the most accomplished flier, but is accessible for beginners. A top product, and a welcome addition to a kite bag.
