Mullin has taken an unusual route in producing this (almost) full size trick kite. The S4 is a scaled up Area 51 - strange as most people start with a big kite and make it smaller. So is the S4 a cynical attempt to get us to buy another kite or a serious rival to Bensons Gemini.
The kite itself is deep, this it shares with its smaller brother. The precision of the kite, unsurprisingly, is better than the Area 51, and the Gemini. The kite has the same lock and fade ability of the Area 51, and backspins come easily enough. Flick flaks are great - to be honest this kite seems to have got the perfect balance between fades and Flick flaks.
The kite slots into cascades even if you've never done them before. The only thing i found trickier with the S4 than with the Gemini were 540's which I understand is because of the depth of the sail - they are certainly available I just have to practice harder!
So what don't I like about this kite - the price is good, as is the sparring
and quality of construction, in flight it is spot on - its just a shame that
Mullins haven't got the facilities to produce kites with sale layouts like
the Gemini - but if we all buy an S4 I'm sure they'll work on it.
