Dave Morley Interview

kHiTe cathches up with Dave Morley, yet another Carl Robertshaw sponsored flier and all round top bloke.

kHiTe: Dave, tell the good readers of kHiTe a little about yourself?

I have been flying sports kites since the grand old age of fourteen and started competiting in STACK competitions not long after that in a team called 'Infinity'. It was a very steep learning curve in those days with the likes of Airkraft, Sky Dance and XS ruling the skies, however it was probably one of the most exciting times with the UK really leading the way in sport kiting.

I have been the leader of Team Vortex (now disbanded), though now I focus mainly on pairs in the guise of 'Mobius'.

kHiTe: How did you do last season?

Last year was my best competition season to date. To begin with the infamous 'Scratch Bunnies' team that I lead managed to pip fellow UK teams Flame and Matrix Management in to fifth place at the World Championships in Berck, France - an excellent start to the year.

As for the STACK UK competitions, I couldn't have asked for more. First in dual-line individual and first in dual-line pairs.

To round of the season, the 'Bunnies' were on form yet again to pick up third place at the European Championships at Frejus in France.

Pair Mobius in Action

kHiTe: What are your plans for this season?

This season has all the makings of being the best yet. We, Mobius, have been working really hard over the Winter in development of new routines and also tuning up the Fury ready for its first showing on the competition circuit.

I've just got back from Berck for this year's World Team Championship. Later in the year I hope to get across to the French Nationals in Paris and also the European Championships which look to be being held in Holland. Of course somewhere in there too is the retaining of my two UK titles which I shall be putting up a good fight to hold on to.

kHiTe: What's you philosophy of kite flying?

First and foremost is to enjoy and get the most out of flying. Sometimes during competition it is hard to keep track of that, especially when you have to invest money and lots time in to it.

My main motivation is the enjoyment I get performing my routines in front of large crowds and the hope that it might encourage more people to try the 'sport'.

kHiTe: Thank you Dave for your time and best of luck this season!
