Andy Preston Design Tree

So here it is. Completely unofficial and not even checked with Mr P. himself:

The tree looks in particular at kites inspired by the work done by Andy in the L7 / Matrix development cycle. Kites like the Erazor and then the Stranger Level 7 have deep sails and a lower aspect ratio than the Stranger and Psycho. The Matrix has a design with two stand offs that created a deep channel in the sail. Inspired by the Matrix Carl Robertshaw scaled the kite down to create what was to become the Dot Matrix. A team of two designers, Wink and Meurier at Mullin kites were further influenced by this design and by the backspin performance of the Level 7 to produce first the 6ft Area 51 and then the scaled up S4.

Following the period when Carl took over production of the Matrix from Flexifoil there have been subtle changes in materials and framing.

The Tribal, a new kite from Andy Preston is actually a design several years old. It has a definate two stand off channel, but the sail is slightly shallower and the kite has a higher aspect ratio.
