kHiTe managed to grab Robin Smith, 3 times UK national Champion and member of the notorious Scratch Bunnies (with current UK individual champion Dave Morley and fellow Mobius team mate Richard Pellew) who were the top ranking UK team in the 2003 World and European Championships.
kHiTe: So Robin what have you been up to recently?
I'm in my penultimate year studying e-commerce and digital business at the University of Nottingham. I'm also looking for summer internships with a number of banks and consultancies at the moment in what is a very volatile graduate job market.

kHiTe: It's not just the job market that has been volatile. What have been the ups and downs of the 2003 season?
The highlight of the year has to be the World Team Championships in Berck. The philosophy of Scratch Bunnies is "Have fun and don't ever use the 'P' word (practice)."
I wasn't in great health on arrival at Berck having spent a week indulging with university friends snow boarding in the Alps. It was also the first time we had flown together for a number of months - and then there was my serious nose bleed. 2 minutes into having my first fly for a number of months, my nose just exploded in a ball of gooey stuff! Not great! As a result we entered the arena having flown together for about 30 minutes tops!
However we came 4th overall, top UK team and were over the moon! I got very drunk at the prize ceremony, I have little to no memory of it, the French know how to hit it hard! I met loads of great people, people I'm looking forward to catching up again with this easter when we go back out.

Low point, I have to say it, loosing the national championships to my friend Mr. Morley. He deserved it of course, as he put more work in. I am not making excuses, but summer exams meant I missed the first two rounds of the domestic championships and I then had a naff round at Middle Wallop due to terrible wind.
kHiTe: Respect to Dave for working hard last year, and respect to you for competing with so much on. What have you got planned for 2004?
I am looking forward going back to Berck, but mainly seeing the Kitestudio Carl Robertshaw brand develop.

Robin's Sponsor: Carl Robertshaw
The Kitestudio has been a hotbed of activity recently. All very 'hush hush' 'nudge nudge' 'wink wink'.
kHiTe: Say nooo more?
Well ... covert trips to london ... testing in the middle of night in pouring rain. But I've just got off the phone with Carl, and have permission to give you the inside story on what's been going on!

Midnight Testing of a Fury Prototype
kHiTe: We are deeply honored!
Carl's been secretly developing the definitive sport kite for over two years. The Fury is the amalgamation of a three figure number of prototypes, and some serious innovation. The Fury combines incredible precision with trick ability of a kite half its size. It's capable of pushing the boundaries beyond even the yo-yo tricks that have become the de-facto in Europe .
Rather than talking about it - which I could do all day! - my advice is go out and fly it! Readers in the UK will have a chance to get their hands on a Fury at Blackheath on the 7th march 2004. Rather than having me give a biased view, we'll get one of the first production models out to kHiTe ASAP.
Needless to say I'm excited. Very excited!
kHiTe: Fantastic, something to look forward to. Thanks for your time Robin. Hope to see you at top form this year, and look forward to seeing the Fury in action.
